MBTA NORTH SHORE TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENTS Revere to Salem, Massachusetts | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
The purpose of the North Shore Transit Improvements project is to identify the inadequacies of the transit system in the study area and provide a strategy for making improvements to address these needs. After studying various alternatives, the study will ultimately recommend projects that address these issues, and are eligible for at least partial funding by the federal government. The project will look at improvements to rapid transit, commuter rail, buses and parking.
During the study phase, ASEC Corporation has been contracted by the Parsons Brinckerhoff/Harris, JV to provide survey and mapping services along the following areas: MBTA’s Eastern Route Mainline from Wonderland Station to Salem Station Route of the abandoned Narrow Gauge RR from Wonderland Station to Saugus River All areas between both Rights-of-Way The corridor extends approximately 12 miles. Aerial photography was used to generate base plan drawings. GPS was used to create horizontal and vertical control for both surface and aerial surveys. Wetlands were located throughout the length of the route. Field surveys were conducted at grade crossings and at Lynn Station along with extra detail at all undergrade bridges. Supplemental survey data included utility structures and was used to fill gaps in base mapping that occur due to areas being obscured. Inverts of all sewer and to drain lines were obtained at grade crossings. Record information was collected from area utilities and incorporated into the base plan. Assessor information was obtained from subject communities and scanned to provide graphical property lines.
